Job Description

From office conversions to the redevelopment of commercial sites and the delivery of bespoke new homes, our client  work across a broad spectrum of schemes. They are looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the Head Office team in West Berkshire.

As a Senior QS, you’re role is a broad one ranging from risk management to procurement, financial reporting and managing the supply chain. You’ll face the challenge of ensuring that contracts are properly managed and targeted to deliver the agreed margins and cash projections whilst mitigating business risk and commercial exposure. You’ll monitor costs for new projects, ensuring best value for money, conform to cost KPI’s, budget, programme and corporate objectives – in short find innovative ways to save money whilst ensuring that exemplary standards of Health and Safety are not compromised through a cost decision and also ensuring that all projects meet the required company standards of quality installation.

A key focus will be the monitoring of the cost base both within the business and throughout the supply chain through the identification of operational efficiencies. You’ll be responsible for the measuring of contract work, ordering of plant and materials, the value of variation orders, interim applications, final accounts, contract claims and day to day surveying duties. You’ll produce a cost plan at each design stage and will manage the scope and design change in conjunction with the design team. As SQS, you’ll determine and manage the risk through all stages of the project and will analyse profit and loss areas, liaising closely with the team for the procurement element of the project and carry out both monthly valuations and sub-contractor valuations providing costs to complete forecasts. Working with a wide range of internal and external teams, you’ll ensure that costs are produced in a timely manner to assist in achieving the timeframes set out in the client contract, identifying opportunities to ‘build for less’ and to improve existing work processes.

The successful SQS will need to be forward looking in anticipating future challenges and opportunities and respond to these with effective planning. You’ll be required to keep abreast of the issues facing the business on a day-to-day basis and in the longer term, anticipating future challenges and opportunities and responding to these with effective planning, developing own solutions in an entrepreneurial manner whilst maintaining the company’s professional image.

A stable career history with proven experience of working on large scale installations and developments is essential as is the ability to manage strategically important new projects and present to and influence governance group for approval.  

The role will be working primarily on residential projects with your time split between the office, probably 40% of the time, and out on-site, West of London the rest of the time – outside North and South Circular.
